It’s always in slow motion when your iPhone falls, and iphone Cases is an option to this as a protective guard. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough time for your heart to stop. It’s regrettable for every action that led you to this point, and for you to give up and watch helplessly as the glass shatters into a 1,000-piece puzzle.
You also didn’t sign up for AppleCare, of course. We asked 14 stylish folks (including a few phone loving Strategist writers) to tell us about the cases they use to safeguard their cherished iPhones. This is to prevent turning your life into a series of imaginary Zack Snyder action sequences. Thin, slim cases, cases so thick they look like they might be tossed off a building. Bumper cases that securely bounce, and more artsy ones that protect while also allowing for self-expression are among their faves.
Before we get started, keep in mind that while the most of the cases in this post are for the iPhone 12, you should be able to locate a majority of them for older models as well. You can check out for other Phone Cases and Covers here.
Clear iPhone Cases are the Best
Clear Apple iPhone 12 Case with MagSafe
Octavio Platon Akel, an illustrator and creator of the trendy footwear Instagram page Monsieur Saturday, believes it’s all about “functionality!”.
“The most essential thing is to keep my two children, a three-year-old and a one-year-old, safe. They battle over the phone, and the case keeps it safe when it falls out of their hands.” Akel prefers to keep things simple and colorless. His iPhone cases must also be sleek because he frequently needs to pull his phone from his back pocket while interacting with his children.
Spigen iPhone 12 Case with Ultra Hybrid Design
Tembe Denton Hurst, a Strategist staff writer, adds, “I’ve always had a thing for clearish iPhone cases.”
“It’s because I prefer to see my phone,” she explains. At the very least, you should see the phone I paid for if I’m spending so much money.” After a quick search on Amazon, she decided on this Spigen Ultra Hybrid because she loved the higher bezels that protect the screen and the camera bump.
Unlike other cases, the volume rockers and power button have bigger covers, making them considerably more responsive. “Its back is clear, but the corners match the color of my phone,” she adds, “which I think looks sleek but yet has a little bit of flair.”
And it works: “I’ve fallen my phone in wonderfully dramatic ways more than a few times.” I tripped up the steps at McNally Jackson recently, slamming my phone against the stairwell. It landed facedown, but I was pleased to find that it had no cracks and that my case had not been damaged.”
iPhone 12 Matone Case
Lauren Ro, a Strategist writer, says, “I take pride in taking pretty excellent care of my belongings, particularly my iPhone, which I’ve never broken before, knock on wood.”
She claims that the Apple Genius Bar was impressed with the state of her five year old iPhone when she brought it in lately. “I owe everything to this clear plastic container, which I was captivated to in the first place because of its simplicity and lack of color.
“It almost disappears,” she says. “Not only does it fit my phone like a glove, but it’s also simple to remove and replace for cleaning.” The case, according to Ro, has survived drops on asphalt, concrete, and even tile floors. It has been somewhat discolored over time, which is the only reason to replace it.”
TORRAS Shockproof Compatible for iPhone 12
Amardeep Singh, the designer of the TORRAS Shockproof Compatible for iPhone 12 case, prefers low-profile, and minimalist cases.
He explains, “This one is kind of sticky, which is great, and it has a lip for the front and for the cameras, which is pretty much the only thing I look for in a case.”
The lips lift and protect the delicate surfaces of your phone from whatever you would place it on.
The Thinnest iPhone Cases
Ultra Thin iPhone 12 Case by PEEL
Thin cases protect your phone without adding weight or size, allowing you to handle it comfortably and use it easily. Isaac Hindin Miller, the founder of I Like You and a DJ, recommended this one to us.
He appreciates the small and sleek Peel case after using large cases in the past and bashing his screen to oblivion.
At New York magazine, we’ve long been admirers of Peel. Peel cases are described by contributors Jake Swearingen and Paris Martineau as “low key [options]. This won’t hide the splendor of your sparkling new iPhone from the world.” The iPhone cases are “crazy thin like. You’ll forget you have a cover on thin still offer some protection if you fumble your iPhone into the sidewalk,” according to the company.
Chris Black, a strategist columnist, discovered his Peel cover on Instagram. He claims it’s the definition of “barely there,”. This means it’s so unobtrusive on your phone that you don’t even notice it. “The price is right, and it fits comfortably in the pocket,”. He continues, before going on to suggest that Peel also makes an excellent glass protector.
The most Environmentally Friendly iPhone Cases
Pela iPhone 12 Case (Eco-Friendly)
Bianca Valle, an artist, nutritionist, and all around creative, recommended the Pela case to us because of its biodegradability.
The case is comprised of flax-straw fibers that will organically decompose in compost. It has a soft, flexible outer shell, and Valle says she likes the color green since it goes with everything.
The camera and your screen are additionally protected from scratches by a wrap-around lip.
Best iPhone Cases made of Rubber
Apple iPhone 12 Silicone Case with MagSafe
When Maggie Stephenson upgraded to the iPhone 12 Max Pro, she purchased her second of these cases.
“The cases almost have a rubbery feel to them, which is fantastic if you’re clumsy like me,” she says of the nonslip material. She had numerous phones “actually slip out of my fingers and break” before purchasing these cases. Another phone “slid over the kitchen counter, just to fall on the ground and shatter.” However, is no longer a concern for her.
“The clean style and modern hues are also pluses,” she adds. “It’s difficult to choose just one!”.
Aneu Series Case for iPhone 12 Mini
OtterBox has long been known for making the hardest cases. According to Strategist writer, Louis Cheslaw, they’ve also always been known for something else.
“No one thinks [the] cases are particularly attractive, not even those who propose them.”
Cheslaw finally settled on the Aneu after two failed attempts with different OtterBox choices. He describes it as being “much smaller than the Commuter case,” with a rectangular shape (with edges) and an open charging port.
The body is available in a few plain, solid colors, with certain variations adding aesthetic appeal. Also, with varied colored sides and side buttons”. According to Cheslaw, “it slides in and out of pockets with ease. Yet its sides have some hold to them so the case never feels like it would slip out of my hand.”
It still performs like an OtterBox where it matters. I’ve fallen my phone a couple times since purchasing the Aneu case, and there isn’t a scratch anywhere on it or on the phone.”
The Best iPhone Cases made of Finest leather
iPhone Case with Hender Scheme
Hender Scheme is a Japanese accessories and footwear brand best recognized for its recreations of legendary Jordans and other well-known sneakers. They frequently manufacture homemade accessories as well. This leather iPhone Cases recommended by Timothy Grindle, co-founder of the menswear retailer Canoe Club.
“I’ve had mine for about a year now, and the patina from usage and age, like all their shoes, is absolutely beautiful,” he says. “I have a 1.5-year old daughter who snatches it and throws it off the couch on a daily basis, and I have had no problems. So, I consider that a pretty solid test.” Grindle previously used an Apple leather case, but the leather peeled and became discolored after a few months.
The patina on the Hender Scheme case, on the other hand, darkened to a lovely brown “some from usage and some from sun exposure,” he claims. “It went from a really light tan to a good medium brown with darker places where it has been used more.”
The most Artistic iPhone Case
Memor Personalized Case
Fashion writer Alyssa Coscarelli suggests this Memor Studio case, which is inspired by mosaic arts, for a one of a kind case.
The case is only available for preorder, but you may choose a color and have a one of a kind case made just for you. “Since shooting photos and selfies is a part of my job, I’m always on the lookout for cases that are beautiful and unusual. Also, complement rather than detract from an outfit,” she says.
“Talismans, glass fragments, tile, coins, shells, and other finds can be found in each case. It’s such a unique case that it receives numerous compliments. I adore the fact that I am the only one who has this identical one.”
Despite the fact that Coscarelli claims she drops her phone on the tile flooring of her bathroom on a regular basis “slippery hands from continuous hand-washing and lotioning!”. The screen has yet to break.
Best bumper iPhone Cases
iPhone 12 RhinoShield Bumper Case
David Pogue, a former tech columnist and Strategist contributor, uses only this case for all of his smartphones.
“Once it’s on your phone, you can drop it from 11 feet onto concrete, repeatedly, without causing any harm to the glass,” he claims. Pogue claims his son became a small star in eighth grade by “deliberately whipping his phone down the hall, against walls, and off of lunch tables. This is just to generate a reaction,” which we don’t necessarily encourage. His phone is undamaged.”
Pogue once climbed to the top of an eight foot ladder and flung his phone (complete with Crash Guard bumper) 53 times at the floor.
Despite a tiny bend in the screen, it never cracked. “To fracture your screen, you’d have to put it facedown onto a small, sharp edge it’s feasible, but unlikely,” says Pogue.
